I have a problem with the theater. Insomuchas I do not like it and have little to no respect for acting. I'm admitting it right here right now. I know this shouldn't be so. I once told this to my English teacher at carver. He happened to also be a theater teacher at the school. "how sad," he said " that you can't suspend your disbelief for just a short time."
The truth is it's hard for me to sit through a show and not think of the actors doing their little exercises before hand and think of them strugling to get in character and think of them thinking of themselves at that character and then of course I cant follow the rest of the play. I also find it uncomfortable to watch people emote emotions they do not actually feel right in front of me. That's so ingeniune and kind of stupid.
Movies I'm fine with. Unless I have accidently caught inside the actors studio on my parents tv and then the movies they discuss completely loose their dignity for me.
here is what I dislike too- actors who get to take all the credit for a well written screenplay or play or movie based on a book/graphic novel. YO!? Whose blood sweat and tears brought these characters to life? You are but a puppet my friend.
here is something I also disaprove of- Felicity Huffman playing a transgendered man in Transamerica. That's weak, people. There are plenty of transgenered actors to play that part.
also while I'm here I'm going to say that the screenplay to Prairie Home Companion sucked ... and I really like PHC.

I feel slightly uncomfortable watching poorly done serious plays, but I don't mind suspending a bit of disblief for most things theatrical. However, I enjoy dance more (both performing and watching).

(They also tend to be overly perky and loud. But this admittedly might be a personal prejudice coming from a former drama student.)
